Announcing Board President David Singer and Vice President Mario Smith

Intonation is delighted to announce its newest Board President, David Singer, and its newest Board Vice President, Mario Smith. 

David Singer is a founding Board Member of Intonation who has been involved since its humble origins in Humboldt Park in 2005. A Chicagoan for over 40 years, David has worked in every corner of the creative arts. He is a filmmaker and screenwriter whose work has been shared in theaters and at festivals around the world. He is a composer whose music has been a part of everything from Broadway plays to feature films to TV commercials. As a songwriter and bandleader, David has released 10 albums and played hundreds of shows nationally and internationally He has produced concerts and festivals at the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Harris Theatre, and virtually every rock club in Chicago, large and small. Season One of David’s first audio fiction project Incoming, a podcast about the end of the world, was released in 2024 on Wondery+. 

Mario Smith is the host/Executive Producer of News From the Service Entrance with Mario Smith on WLPN-LP Lumpen Radio in Chicago, the host of The Silver Room’s Randomly Selected podcast, and the co-host of the podcast Who You Got with Mike & Mario. He was featured in the Chicago Reader’s The People Issue in 2022. His poetry appears in the books Power Lines: A Decade Of Poetry from Chicago’s Guild Complex and The Break Beat Poets published by Haymarket Press.

We thank the outgoing Board President and Vice President, Brian Black and Irene Fogelson, for their dedication to their positions. Brian is a founding Board member, has served as Board Treasurer, and was the Board President for over six years. He led the hiring committee that brought on Tonya Howell as Intonation’s current Executive Director and has brought many new supporters and donors to our organization. He will continue to serve as a Board Member. Irene has served on the Board since 2016 and shares a commitment to youth development and creating pipelines for students from elementary school through their high school careers. Irene will also continue to serve as a Board Member. We appreciate their continued commitment to our Board and Intonation as a whole.

We are excited for all to come under the guidance of our new Board leadership, especially with regard to our future space. As always, the Intonation community is grateful for our insightful, passionate, and dedicated Board members.
